Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced this past week
that director Stefano Sollima’s Sicario: Day of the Soldado will be
making its way to the home entertainment arena on Oct. 2 as a three-SKU product
offering.
The ARR comes in at 95 days and summer box office receipts
currently stand at $49.7 million.
Planned for release are DVD, Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and 4K
Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack editions.
Best Buy has an exclusive SteelBook edition in the works as well.
CIA operatives Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) and Alejandro
Gillick (Benicio del Toro) are back at work in a new plan to disrupt the
cross-border drug trade with an elaborate plan to start a war between rival
Mexican drug cartels. It is especially
urgent as one of the cartels aided a terrorist attack and so it is all-out war!
The plan is complicated and has lots of “moving parts,” so
hell naturally breaks loose and everything quickly goes south … with Graver and
Gillick suddenly finding themselves working at cross-purposes. The film’s ending leaves open the
possibility of further “Sicario” adventures.
Despite a production dust-up that saw Black Label Media move
the release from Lionsgate to Sony Pictures, Sicario: Day of the Soldado delivers
exactly what was promised, plenty of violence and intrigue. The home entertainment launch will be just
fine come Oct. 2.
Bonus features include a trio of featurettes — “From Film to
Franchise: Continuing the Story,” “An Act of War: Making Sicario: Day of the
Soldado” and “The Assassin and the Soldier: The Cast & Characters.”
