Steve McQueen’s character
— Chief Mike O' Hallorhan — in The Towering Inferno had that great
moment where, frustrated as hell, says, “Now you know there's no sure way for
us to fight a fire in any place above the seventh floor, but you guys just keep
building them as high as you can.” The
fire was out of control and fighting it was more or less hopeless.
Keep that image and quote
in mind when we tell you that Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has tabbed
Oct. 9 for a four-SKU release of writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber’s Skyscraper.
The ARR is 88 days and
summertime ticket sales generated at the local multiplex currently stand at
$66.8 million.
Planned for release are a
stand-alone DVD edition, a Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack, a 3D/2D Blu-ray Combo Pack
and a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack.
Will Sawyer (Dwayne
Johnson) is a security consultant who suddenly finds himself having to rescue
his wife (played by Neve Campbell) and kids, who are trapped in The Pearl, the
world’s tallest skyscraper in Hong Kong.
And, wouldn’t you know it, the building is on fire and they are well above
“the seventh floor.”
To make matters worse,
Sawyer has to battles terrorists and he has only one leg!! But this is Dwayne Johnson and with just one
leg and maybe even an arm tied behind his back he will somehow prevail!!
Bonus features begin with
commentary from director Rawson Marshall Thurber (Central Intelligence, We're the
Millers, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story), plus deleted and extended
scenes (with commentary by Thurber).
Additionally, there are a
half-dozen production featurettes — “Dwayne Johnson: Embodying a Hero,”
“Inspiration,” “Opposing Forces,” “Friends No More,” “Kids in Action” and “Pineapple
Pitch.”
