Director Mark Savage's Purgatory Road Debuts On DVD And Blu-ray On Feb. 12 By Way Of Unearthed Films

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey
Back in March of this year we were singing the praises of Aussie filmmaker Mark Savage and the Apr. 10 Blu-ray release of his Stressed to Kill starring Bill Oberst Jr. and Armand Assante … a very cool indie-action flick.

So when word arrived that filmmaker Mark Savage was back with another entry — this time for both DVD and Blu-ray release — we had to take a look-see as to what was on the way from Unearthed Films, with sales and distribution expertise provided by MVD Entertainment Group, on Feb. 12.

This time he takes to the back roads of Mississippi for a twisted horror tale titled Purgatory Road.   The backstory has young brothers witnessing the suicide of their morose father, who has his lifetime of savings ripped off and can’t handle the loss … it was a mind-altering event for Vincent (Gary Cairns — Monumental, Daylight's End, The Night Visitor).

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph TribbeyThe solution?   Well, Vincent has canonized himself as a priest and has taken to the countryside to hear confessions of sinners.   His brother, Michael (Luke Albright, who also co-starred with Gary Cairns in director Scott B. Hansen’s Monumental) is his “assistant.”

So what is the big deal?  A priest hearing confessions and … the “and” part is the key to it.   Vincent hears confessions of sinners and if — and here is the juicy part — they admit to being thieves, he listens to what they have to say … and then butchers them!

Norman Bates had to wait for the sinners to arrive at his off-the-highway motel to have his way with them, but Vincent and his little church (actually a camper) take to the road and the sinners come flocking to the road show.   What a neat way to find victims for slaughter!!

Feb. 12, Mark Savage and his Purgatory Road on DVD and Blu-ray … mark your calendar.
Bonus features include commentary from filmmaker Mark Savage and a behind-the-scenes featurette.
