Last week it was the news that Charlie’s
Angels: The Complete Series would be heading home
as a massive 20-disc Blu-ray set on Oct. 29 from Mill Creek Entertainment that
caught everyone’s attention.
Without missing a beat, Mill Creek Entertainment was
back again this week with news about another complete collection on DVD. Timed for release on Oct. 15 is the 22-disc
DVD set of The King of Queens: The Complete Series.
All 207 episodes — yes, you read that right, 207
episodes (pilot, plus 206 broadcasts) — from this hit comedy series’ nine full
seasons that began in September of 1998 and signed off with the two-part finale
in May of 2007.
Also getting streets this past week are two new Blu-ray releases. The first of these is director Matthijs van Heiningen, Jr.’s 2011 sci-fi thriller, The Thing, starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Of note, this is actually a prequel to filmmaker
John Carpenter’s 1982 film of the same name starring Kurt Russell … which, in
turn, was a remake of director Christian Nyby’s 1951 classic, The Thing
from Another World (produced by Howard Hawks).
The street date for this Blu-ray presentation of The Thing will
be Oct. 29.
Arriving on the same day is the Blu-ray
double-feature of director Gillian Armstrong’s Christmas of 1994 film
adaptation of the Louisa May Alcott novel, Little
Women (Winona Ryder was nominated for Best Actress
for her performance here as Jo), which is teamed with writer/director Sofia
Coppola’s 2006 film release of Marie Antoinette,
starring Kirsten Dunst as the doomed French monarch.
