Gangsters, the mob and organized crime is the 4K
theme for Universal Pictures Home Entertainment this fall.
First, director Martin Scorsese’s Casino is
getting a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack push on Sept. 10 (yeah, yeah, yeah,
that “technically” still summer, but it is post-Labor Day and that’s the signal
for fall to begin). Now word arrives
that Oct. 15 has been selected as the street date for the debut of 4K Ultra
HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack editions of both director Brian De Palma’s 1983 gangster
saga, Scarface, and
Ridley Scott’s similarly themed American Gangster from
2007.
Bonus goodies for Scarface
include deleted scenes, a second viewing option, Scarface:
The TV Version (32 minutes worth of cuts) and a
half-dozen featurettes — “Scarface: 35th Anniversary Reunion,” “The Scarface
Phenomenon,” “The World of Tony Montana,” “The Rebirth,” “The Acting” and “The
Creating.”
Looking at the American
Gangster 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack
edition, we find commentary from director Ridely Scott and writer Steven
Zaillian, deleted scenes, the BET special titled “The Making of American
Gangster,” the featurette, “Fallen Empire: Making American Gangster” and a trio
of music video presentations.
