Way back in the middle of July, Mill Creek
Entertainment announced that it had acquired the distribution rights to the Ultraman
library from The Tsuburaya Productions Co., Ltd. The first releases — Ultra Q:
Complete Series 01 and Ultraman:
Complete Series 02 — arrived on Blu-ray on Oct. 15
and a steady flow of fan-pleasing collections have been released on a regular
basis since that date.
With over 50 years of programming, which includes
some 1,100 individual episodes and 20 feature films, Mill Creek Entertainment
will be busy for the foreseeable future.
Indeed, the latest announcement arrived this past
week and there are two of the 20 feature films in the Ultraman
library now on the release calendar for delivery on Blu-ray on Mar. 17.
First up is director Koichi Sakamoto’s 2018 sci-fi
thriller, Ultraman Geed the Movie: Connect the Wishes!,
starring Tatsuomi Hamada (from the Ultraman Geed: The Series,
released on Nov. 19 by Mill Creek) as Riku (aka: Ultraman), who teams up with Airu
Higa (Yuika Motokariya) to thwart the plans of the Galactron Army … things look
grim until reinforcements arrive!!!
Also streeting on Mar. 17 is director Kiyotaka
Taguchi’s 2017 Ultraman Orb the Movie: The Power of Bonds!,
featuring Hideo Ishiguro as Gai (aka: Ultraman Orb) in this foreshadowing of
the events that would unfold in Ultraman Geed the Movie: Connect the
Wishes! the following year. Key to action here is the alliance of the
space witch Murnau (Oniyakko Tsubaki) with the sinister Jugglus Juggler (Takaya
Aoyagi)!!
Both films are presented in Japanese with English
subtitles.
