Dark Force Entertainment, with sales and
distribution expertise provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has new 4K film
restoration (from the original camera negative) of director David DeFalco’s
2002 slasher thriller, The Backlot Murders,
ready for a Blu-ray launch on Apr. 28.
The Wiseguys are a would-be rock band with a
penchant for mayhem. Indeed, that bad
boy behavior actually caused a major rift in the makeup of the group, so now
that things have calmed down they have decided that a new music video is just
what they need to get The Wiseguys back on track.
Simple enough, a sort of everyday thing … good
promotion, up their visibility and the money will come rolling in. And besides, The Wiseguys have a lot of hot
chicks hanging around … it’s sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll, baby. So let’s get that video shot and on TV!!
Through some connections, they get access to the
back lot of Universal Studios, where they plan to use the old Psycho
house and other classic Universal horror sets as a backdrop for their big
production. Of course genre fans will
recognize this set up, complete with a rock band and a bevvy of sexy babes — which
includes such beauties as Shayla (Angela Little — Rush Hour 2, American Pie Presents:
Band Camp), Nikki (Nancy O’Brien — Web of Seduction),
Janey (Jaime Anstead — The Ritual, Death Train),
Gina (Heather Tindell), Wendy (LoriDawn Messuri — Malibu
Nights) and Chelsea (Carrie Stevens — Cruel
Game, Head Games) — as the victim pool.
Without giving too much away (hint: the title of the
film is a “dead” giveaway), all of the aforementioned young ladies will
definitely not make it into the “final girl” circle. Not a single one.
So, it is your job to both enjoy the bloodbath and
guess who the killer is — who wears an Elvis
mask — who enjoys putting holes in Shayla, Chelsea, Gina and the rest of
the band groupies.
Is it the band’s manager, Stephanie (Priscilla
Barnes — perhaps best known as Terri in Three’s
Company and Magda in Jane the
Virgin), the music video director, Henry (Charles
Fleischer — as the voice of Roger Rabbit, plus such films as Back to
the Future Part II, Straight Talk,
etc.), or, maybe Tony (none other than Corey Haim) … he seems strange enough to
be a psycho killer on the set of Psycho!!
Bonus features include commentary from
writer/director David DeFalco and series of behind-the-scenes interviews with
cast members Brian Gaskill, Carrie Stevens and Charles Fleischer.
