MVD Entertainment Group has circled Friday, Apr. 24,
on its release calendar for the DVD debut of documentary filmmaker Adam Dubin’s
Murder In The Front Row: The San Francisco Bay
Area Thrash Metal Story.
Documentary filmmaker and music aficionado, Adam Dubin,
has delivered music videos and documentary films either for, or about, the
likes of the Beastie Boys and Metallica, and then he shifted over to a series
of videos and shorts featuring comedian Lewis Black. He’s been at this for 30 years and has pretty
much been there, done that and seen it all.
With Murder In The Front Row: The San Francisco
Bay Area Thrash Metal Story, Dubin returns to his
music roots and takes us back to the early 1980s for a head-banging trip down
thrash metal memory lane. The venues,
the record stores that supported them and the underground publications that
were home to the Bay Area rogue rockers are all here.
Plus he has assembled interview sessions with the
band members from Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer to Anthrax, Death Angel,
Testament and Kirk Hammett’s Exodus … and more. And get this, actor and comedian Brian
Posehn (Mr. Show with Bob and David, The Devil's Rejects,
Sleeping Dogs Lie) does the narration (that should
be fun).
As to extras, there is a commentary option featuring
filmmaker Adam Dubin, and even after fans have savored the full film and
enjoyed Dubin’s insights, MVD Entertainment Group has even more in the way of
bonus extras!! There is a whopping 73
minutes worth of extra “Thrash” divided up into 28 separate segments, ranging
from “More Megadeth” to a “Tribute to Wes Robinson” (founder of the famous Ruthie's
Inn in Berkeley) and more … a regular treasure trove of extras.
