With the Oscar season over and both Sony and Quentin
Tarantino unloved by the members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and
Sciences, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has moved on with two new
announcements for the home entertainment packaged media marketplace.
Arriving on Apr. 7 is writer/director Greta Gerwig’s
re-imagining of the Louisa May Alcott classic, Little
Women, which was nominated for six Oscars,
including Best Picture, two acting nominations (Best Actress, Saoirse Ronan and
Best Supporting Actress, Florence Pugh) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Greta
Gerwig), but had to settle for Best Costume Design.
The ARR is 102 days and box office receipts were a
winning $102.7 million.
Planned for release are both a stand-alone DVD
edition as well as a Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack.
As to bonus features, there are six featurettes
common to both release SKUs — “A New Generation of Little Women,” “Making a
Modern Classic,” “Greta Gerwig: Women Making Art,” “Hair & Make-Up Test
Sequence,” “Little Women Behind the Scenes” and “Orchard House, Home of Louisa
May Alcott.”
Also on the release schedule from Sony Pictures Home
Entertainment is the smash Christmas-season comedy, writer/director Jake Kasdan’s
Jumanji: The Next Level. The street date is Mar. 17, which yields an
ARR of 95 days.
Box office receipts were an eye-popping $298.5
million in the domestic market and over $460 million in overseas markets. By any standards, that is a SMASH hit …
count on sequels in the future.
As to SKU configuration, look for Combo Pack
editions for both the 4K Ultra HD (with Blu-ray) and Blu-ray (with DVD)
formats, plus a single-disc DVD selection.
Bonus goodies common to all three release SKUs are a
trio of featurettes — “Body Swapping: Snapping Into Character,” “Back Together:
Reuniting the Cast” and “Level Up: Making Jumanji: The Next Level.”
Exclusive to the Combo Pack releases are a gag reel
and ten additional featurettes — “Rhys Darby Wants To Jingle,” “Body
Swapping: Snapping Into Character,” “Back Together: Reuniting the Cast,” “Level
Up: Making Jumanji: The Next Level,” “Scene Breakdown: Mandrill Bridges,” “Awkwafina
Cat Burglar,” “NPC Confessions: Jurgen The Brutal,” “Telenovela,” “Grow Up,” “VFX
Pre-Vis: Zeppelin Battle” and “VFX Pre-Vis: Ostrich Chase.”
