Severin Films, with sales and distribution support provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has a new 2K film restoration of director Gary Marshall’s Christmas of 1987 romantic comedy hit, Overboard, starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, lined up for delivery as both DVD and Blu-ray product offerings on Aug. 24.
Overboard was the third time that the pair had appeared together in the same film. Beginning way, way back in 1968 they made their first film together, director Michael O'Herlihy’s family comedy, The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, although Goldie Hawn’s role was somewhat limited.
Next, was the co-starring effort in director Jonathan Demme’s 1984 film release of Swing Shift.
After Overboard, they went their separate ways, theatrically speaking, but have remained a “couple” ever since … it wasn’t until 2018 and the made-for-cable release of The Christmas Chronicles that they “worked” again together … with Kurt Russell as Santa Claus and Goldie Hawn doing a cameo as Mrs. Claus.
The film proved to be so well-received that the pair reprised their roles in the 2020 sequel, The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two, this time as co-stars.
The DVD and Blu-ray editions for Overboard from Severin Films on Aug. 24 include a video session with screenwriter Leslie Dixon (Mrs. Doubtfire, Pay it Forward).
