Filmed in 2019, with much of the original cast, and scheduled for release during the summer of 2020, it was pushed back to the Thanksgiving holiday window and then subsequently to Christmas of 2020 … and then Paramount turned the film’s $60 million production into $125 million in cold hard cash when Amazon stepped in and bought the streaming rights.
If you can understand the math in that, god bless you, but more power to Paramount. Of note, the original John Landis film (1988) was budgeted at $38 million and scored $128 million in domestic ticket sales. In other words, a huge hit!
Bonus goodies include commentary from director Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan, 2011 Footloose remake, etc.) and the featurette titled “From Queens to Zamunda.”
