Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment's Nightmare Alley Arrives Home On Mar. 22

Director Guillermo del Toro’s dark horse Best Picture contender, Nightmare Alley, has been green-lighted for the home entertainment packaged media marketplace by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment for delivery as a three-SKU product offering on Mar. 22.

The ARR comes in at 95 days and theatrical ticket sales have been hard to come by with just $10.8 million registered thus far.

The great irony is that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has managed to nominate ten films in the Best Picture category, some of which are rather sketchy (mediocre, unwatchable, etc.), so Nightmare Alley, despite its box office performance, could actually win … although nothing is beyond the insipid fatuity of the Academy to bestow Best Picture laurels on Drive My Car.

This dark neo-noir film adaptation of William Lindsay Gresham’s 1947 novel, Nightmare Alley, was originally adapted for the screen in 1947 by director Edmund Goulding and starred Tyrone Power (Bradley Cooper in the new version), Helen Walker (Cate Blanchett),
Joan Blondell (Toni Collette), Coleen Gray (Rooney Mara), Taylor Holmes (Richard Jenkins) and Ian Keith (David Strathairn).

Planned for release are stand-alone DVD and Blu-ray editions, plus a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack.

Bonus features include a trio of featurettes — “Del Toro’s Neo Noir,” “Beneath the Tarp” and “What Exists in the Fringe.”
