Ziv’s film opened on the film festival circuit to stunning reviews. Some called it must-see for its focus on the history of antisemitic attitudes and prejudices. Indeed, Ziv zeros-in on the writings of Wilhelm Marr (“The Way to Victory of Germanism over Judaism” in 1879) and French radical Édouard Drumont (“Jewish France” in 1886), whose hate of the Jews was lumped in with his contempt of capitalism and his overt racist sentiments (one of history’s real sweethearts).
Antisemitism comes loaded with history, which at times is as difficult to watch as a well-structure horror film. Only in this case, the horror is all too real. With the history comes a blend of personal accounts which really drive the message home. Powerful. And now with the Apr. 19 DVD release from Icarus Films, director Ilan Ziv’s Antisemitism can reach a much-wider audience than just those who managed to catch a festival screening.
Antisemitism is presented in French and English, with English subtitles where needed.
