Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced this past week that two new-to-Blu-ray film releases will be plucked from the studio’s massive film library and sent home during the month of April.
With runaway success of Yellowstone, the two new films making their way to Blu-ray share something in common, Kevin Costner … films from early in his career.
First up, and arriving on Apr. 12, is director John Badham’s summer of 1985 road adventure, American Flyers, teaming Kevin Costner with David Marshall Grant (Bat*21, Air America, The Devil Wears Prada) as brothers who, after years apart, reunite for the grueling “Hell of the West” cycling challenge.
Against the backdrop of the cycling event is a medical condition for one of the brothers that is hereditary and is like a ticking timebomb. Along the way, both brothers do find time for romantic pursuits, with Rae Dawn Chong (Quest for Fire, Commando) and Alexandra Paul (Christine, 8 Million Ways to Die … as Stephanie on the Baywatch television series) filling in nicely as both “crew” members and “friends.”
Also arriving on Blu-ray on Apr. 12 is writer/director Kevin Reynolds’ 1985 buddy/road trip film, Fandango.
It’s 1971 and Costner and four of his life-long buddies — who call themselves "Groovers" — Sam Robards, Judd Nelson, Chuck Bush and Brian Cesak, embark on a “goodbye” road trip across Texas as two of their tightknit group have been drafted to serve in Viet Nam.
Fandango is a meandering adventure with a twist at the end involving Debbie, played by Suzy Amis in her film debut (Twister, The Usual Suspects, Titanic), a young woman who has been involved with two of the Groovers … she will wed one!
