Scream Team Releasing, with sales and distribution expertise provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has a double-feature on Blu-ray to die for this coming Aug. 09.
First up in this killer mix is writer/director Shawn Jones’ 2016 horror tale, Camp Killer, featuring David Lightfoot (played by James Watkins under the creepy skull mask), the world’s most prolific — and dare we say, efficient — slasher/killer in horror movie history. He’s been at it for 30 years in the Camp Woowonga wilderness area and the body count now stands at over 600!
And sure enough, as the film opens more lemmings come hiking his way, including the lovely Tina Wilcox (Melissa LaMartina — House Shark, What Happens Next Will Scare You, Call Girl of Cthulhu), but as he slaughters each one of her companions in turn, Tina takes it on the lamb.
It is, of course, to no avail as Lightfoot closes in for the kill, but he is confronted by the local sheriff, Jack Laughlin (Jimmyo Burril — Corpus Kristi, The Central Authority), and Tina is saved … at least for the moment!
After this opening sequence, filmmaker Shawn Jones introduces two delightful and very entertaining twists that make Camp Killer a very enjoyable slasher film experience. First, Lightfoot and Laughlin have been in this cat-and-mouse game for years, and extend each other the “professional” courtesy of putting aside their respective roles is the game to share some friendly libations at the local watering hole (an opportunity to revisit some of the “greatest kills”).
Secondly, Tina and another Camp Woowonga survivor, Alice (April Monique Burril — best known as “Chainsaw Sally” from the series … also A Feast of Flesh, Corpus Kristi, The Bone Garden, Bloody Scum), team up and decide to do a little hunting of their own. This could upset the balance of nature!!
Bonus goodies include commentary, outtakes and a making-of featurette.
Teamed with Camp Killer is writer/director Matthew Williams’ 2018 film, Maniac Farmer, which turns the classic “victim pool” conceit on its head!
A big man, a gentle giant, at peace with being nothing more than a farmer, that’s our “Farmer” (played by Jake Roark). Counter to this is Blasphemous Rex (Tyler Caldwell) and his little band of droogs, who practice what Alex and company did in Stanley Kubrick’s classic, A Clockwork Orange.
In a perfect world, Blasphemous Rex would stick to his big city hunting grounds, but then we wouldn’t have much in the way of a Maniac Farmer story. Thus, a trip to the countryside and an encounter with our peaceful farmer sets things in motion that — like we said — gives a new meaning to “victim pool.” As they say, “it’s not nice to fool with mother nature” … the same goes for peaceful farmers.
