Icarus Films will be joining forces with France’s premiere film production and distribution company, Distrib Films, in December for not one, but two new film releases on DVD.
The first, arriving on Dec. 13, is from Italian filmmaker Stefano Mordin, The Invisible Witness, starring Riccardo Scamario (Cosimo and Nicole, Pericle, Euphoria) as the man from Milan with everything … wealth, power, a beautiful wife and, apparently, a dead mistress!
Adrián Doria has been named businessman of the year, he has it all, a beautiful wife, family, wealth … the whole package. But there is just one little problem. He claims he was knocked out cold and didn’t have anything to do with his mistress, Laura (Miriam Leone — Diabolik, Love Under House Arrest, Put Grandma in the Freezer), being bludgeoned to death … in a locked room, with a pile of money … with just him.
The police place him under house arrest until they can get the evidence, including a mystery witness, all line up for a formal charge of murder. This gives Adrián the opportunity to meet with a top-of-the-line criminal defense attorney, by the name of Virginia Ferrara (Maria Paiato — Almost Perfect Country, I Am Love, La Pelle Dell'orso), to get his own ducks lined up for what is coming.
Ferrara is no dummy and within minutes of listening to Adrián babble on, she knows that he’s being less than candid. Fess-up or get another lawyer … the whole truth!!
Well, it seems our lovers, Adrián and Laura, had a “little mishap” a few months back and a blackmailer was on to them. Returning from a “business trip,” the pair were involved in an auto accident, the other driver was killed and they decided to cover it up … but there may have been a witness!!
Was it the auto mechanic who helped poor Laura, while Adrián disposed of the body and the car in the nearby lake? Without giving the “MacGuffin” away, let’s just say that things get awfully complicated … and Laura is certainly a contributing factor in what she does with a vital piece of evidence. And Adrián also did a “little something” that was a no-no … there are no innocent victims in this case!!
Stefano Mordin’s The Invisible Witness, a remake of writer/director Oriol Paulo’s 2016 film, The Invisible Guest, is a twisted whodunit that will keeping you guessing right up until the final “twist.” A gem.
On Dec. 13, The Invisible Witness from Icarus Films … presented in Italian with English subtitles.
Also from Distrib Films in December (streeting on Dec. 22) is writer/director Ivan Calbérac’s 2015 film adaptation of his own stage play, The Student and Mister Henri.
Henri Voizot (Claude Brasseur — two-time César Awards-winner … La Guerre des Polices, Le Grand Escogriffe) is a grumpy old man who despises his daughter-in-law, Valérie (Frédérique Bel — Change of Address, Il Etait une Fois Jean-Sébastien Bach), and has come up with a plan to be rid of her.
No, no, no … this is a comedy not a murder for hire story. Voizot’s plan is to have an attractive, working university student — struggling to financially stay in school — to live rent-free in his spare apartment if she will be willing to seduce his son and break up the marriage!!
The student, Constance Piponnier (Noémie Schmidt — La Llum d'Elna, The Awakening of Motti Wolkenbruch), agrees to the arrangement because she is desperate to finish school and make something of herself. Attractive, yes, but perhaps not the best choice for Voizot … but you work with what you have, right!
The son, Paul, played by Guillaume de Tonquédec (César Awards-winner for What's in a Name?), is the target of the scheme. Let the fun begin!!
Tune in on Dec. 22 as Iracus Films presents The Student and Mister Henri … in French with English subtitles.
