Lightyear Entertainment, with sales and distribution support provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has tabbed Feb. 7 for the debut of a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack edition of auteur filmmaker Jim Wynorski’s 1989 film release of The Return of the Swamp Thing.
This is a new 4K film restoration from the film’s original interpositive.
The Return of the Swamp Thing is a direct sequel writer/director Wes Craven’s 1982 cult hit, Swamp Thing, starring Adrienne Barbeau, Louis Jourdan as the evil Dr. Anton Arcane and Dirk Durock (Stand by Me, Raw Deal) as the Swamp Thing.
Both Jourdan and Durock are back, with Heather Locklear, who spent most of the 1980s starring in Dynasty (Sammy Jo) and T.J. Hooker (Officer Stacy Sheridan), makes only her second theatrical appearance (her first in Mark L. Lester’s 1984 film adaptation of Stephen King’s Firestarter) as the new beauty of the swamp.
She’s the “step-daughter” of Arcane, as she mad as hell over the death of her mother and makes the mistake of tracking down the evil mad scientist and asking too many questions. He has “plans” for her … and only the Swamp Thing stands in way of her becoming one of Arcane’s mutant freaks!!!
Bonus goodies include two commentary options, one with director Jim Wynorski and the second teaming Wynorski with film editor Leslie Rosenthal and composer Chuck Cirino. Also included here are video sessions and the newly-prepared featurette title “Reflections on Swamp Thing: 35 Years Later.”
