Mill Creek Entertainment teased its first product offering for the month April with news this past week that a four-film, double-disc Blu-ray collection of action-themed films will be heading to retail on Apr. 11.
The Blu-ray set is titled Action Movie Night: 4 Film Collection.
Where does one begin? How about with director Martin Campbell’s 2000 survival thriller, Vertical Limit, which features a spectacular opening sequence, or “film hook,” and never lets up.
Brother and sister Peter (Chris O’Donnell — Batman & Robin, Scent of a Woman … and as Special Agent G. Callen on the long-running NCIS: Los Angeles television series) and Annie Garrett (Robin Tunney — Hollywoodland, The Craft, Encino Man) are expert climbers, and as the film begins they are on a free-ascent in remote Monument Valley with their father Royce (Stuart Wilson). Things go sideways and Royce makes the split-second decision to sacrifice himself to save his two children … this white-knuckle thrill ride has just started.
We pick up the action a few years later as Annie is the group leader for an assault on K2 in the Pakistan-controlled area of Kashmir. The climb is being financed by wealthy industrialist Elliot Vaughn (played by Bill Paxton), who has made the attempt before … there were deaths, including the wife of rival climber Montgomery Wick (Scott Glenn), who never bought into Vaughn’s explanation of what happened.
Annie, Vaughn and their party at base camp have something of a reunion. Peter arrives and so does Wick … the climb is on and the tension never lets up. Not all will survive this latest attempt to summit K2.
Teamed with Vertical Limit are writer/director Adam Marcus’ alien-smuggling thriller, Conspiracy, starring Val Kilmer and Jennifer Esposito; The Westley Snipes terrorist drama, The Contractor and action super star Jean-Claude Van Damme stars in The Hard Corps along with Vivica A. Fox.
“Action Movie Night” indeed … four films on Blu-ray from Mill Creek Entertainment on Apr. 11!
