Mill Creek Entertainment is extending a special invitation to all for the 55th anniversary celebration of Tsuburaya Productions’ Ultraseven, defender of Earth from all comers. Circle Nov. 14 on your calendar ... do it now.
Way back in the summer of 2019, Mill Creek Entertainment announced the distribution deal for the entire Tsuburaya Productions library — over 50 years worth of series programming (on the magnitude of 1,100 episodes) and twenty feature films were included in the package. DVD and Blu-ray releases have been coming on a steady basis since the announcement.
Now it is time to celebrate the Ultraseven character with the six-disc Blu-ray release titled Ultraseven: 55th Anniversary Anthology, which just happens to feature a mixtures of episodes and features that add up to 55 … all showcasing the many adventures of Ultraseven from the various Ultraman series.
So what are the 55 episodes that fans can enjoy (over 27 hours worth of programming)? For starters, there are 17 episodes from the original Ultraseven series (1967) —“The Invisible Challenger,” “Secret of the Lake,” “The Marked Town,” “The Man Who Came from V3,” “The Ultra Guard Goes West: Part 1,” “The Ultra Guard Goes West: Part 2,” “Underground Go! Go! Go!,” “Showdown at 140 Degrees Below Zero,” “Super Weapon R1,” “The 700 Kilometer Run,” “The Stolen Ultra Eye,” “The Courageous Battle,” “The Seven Assasination Plan: Part 1,” “The Seven Assasination Plan: Part 2,” “Nightmare on Planet No. 4,” “The Biggest Invasion in History: Part 1” and “The Biggest Invasion in History: Part 2.”
That just the warm-up! Next, two episodes from Return of Ultraman (1971)— “Here Comes Ultraseven!” and “When the Star of Ultra Shines” — which is followed by six episodes from Ultraman Ace (1972)— “Execution! Five Ultra Brothers,” “5 Stars Scattered in the Galaxy,” “Annihilation! The 5 Ultra Brothers Miracle!,” “Father of Ultra,” “Seven’s Life! Ace’s Life!” and “Setsubun Scary Story! Sparkling Beans.”
We continue with “What? We Jumped Out Into Space” from Ultraman Kids (1984), a pair of episodes from Ultraman Neos (2000)— “The Red Giant! Seven 21” and “Determine! The SX Rescue Operation” — the feature titled Ultraman Mebius and the Ultraman Brothers (2007), a pair of episodes from Ultraman Mebius (2006) — “Immortal Glozam” and “Final Trilogy III: Words from the Heart,” — and two more episodes from Ultraseven X (2007), “Dream” and “New World.”
Capping the festivities are the 2008 feature film titled Superior 8 Ultraman Brothers, two episodes from Ultra Galaxy: Mega Monster Battle - Never Ending Odyssey (2008)— “The Sunken Pendragon!” and “Escape of the Planet” — two more from Ultraman Ginga (2013)— “The Jet Black Ultra Brothers” and “Darkness and Light” — “The Revenge of Belial: Chapter of Bonds” from Ultraman Zero: The Chronicle (2017), the 2017 feature film, Ultraman Orb: The Movie - Let Me Borrow the Power of Bonds and also from 2017 the mini-series titled Ultra Fight Orb.
