Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced this past week that a 50th anniversary edition of director Sydney Pollack’s 1973 film adaptation of writer Arthur Larentis’ 1972 best-seller, The Way We Were, teaming Barbra Streisand with Robert Redford, will be released on Oct. 17 as a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack edition.
The 4K film restoration is from the original camera negative.
Nominated for six Oscars, including Best Actress for Barbra Streisand, The Way We Were is being present here with two viewing options. The first features the original theatrical cut, while the alternate viewing option includes two newly-restored scenes (about five additional minutes in running time) that were not used in the original theatrical launch in the fall of 1973.
Bonus goodies include commentary from director Sydney Pollack on the theatrical cut and director Michael Aricks’ 1999 feature-length making-of documentary titled Looking Back.
