Bayview Entertainment has tabbed Sept. 10 for the Blu-ray debut of writer/director Heiward Mak’s Fagara.

It has been a long and winding road for Mak’s Fagara, which had its debut at the Summer International Film Festival in Hong Kong back in August of 2019.   This was followed by an international theatrical rollout in September.   The theatrical exposure in the domestic was very limited (for the record, the ARR is a whopping 1,824 days).

Then something strange happened.   Fagara went back onto the festival circuit with stops at the Busan International Film Festival, San Diego Asian Film Festival and the Osaka Asian Film Festival … and then, despite terrific reviews, dropped out of sight.

That all ends on Sept. 10 with the Blu-ray debut of Fagara from Bayview Entertainment.

So what is delightful film about?

Based on Amy Cheung Siu-han’s “Spicy Love,” Fagara is about Acacia Ha (Sammi Cheng — Infernal Affairs, Love for All Seasons, Love on a Diet, Blind Detective, Romancing in Thin Air), a Hong Kong-based travel agent who sees her world turned upside down when her father suddenly dies (played by Kenny Bee in various “flashback” sequences).   At the funeral services she discovers that she has not one, but two sisters, Branch (Megan Lai) and Cherry (Li Xiaofeng), that she knew nothing about.

They spend the next few days getting to know each other — all sorts of diverse family issues surface — but they bond in a common desire to keep their father’s popular Sichuan “hot pot” restaurant going … a business that they collectively know nothing about.

The clock is ticking … they have just about a year to figure it all out.   Do they succeed?   Do they come together as a family?   Sept. 10, Fagara on Blu-ray from Bayview Entertainment to find out!!

Fagara is presented in Cantonese with English subtitles.
