Anchor Bay Entertainment Picks Jan. 14 As The Home Entertainment Street Date For Lee Daniels' The Butler

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey
With the Weinsteins backing it and $115.6 million in ticket sales already recorded in its domestic theatrical run, you can make book that the pretentiously titled Lee Daniels’ The Butler (as the result of a competitive studio’s lawsuit) will be among the Oscar elites in the Best Picture category — plus acting and production honors — in this year’s Oscar derby.

With that in mind, Anchor Bay Entertainment has selected Jan. 14 (nominations are announced on Jan. 16 and the 86th Academy Awards will be on Mar. 2) as the release date for a three-SKU helping — DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack editions.

The ARR is a leisurely 151 days and bonus features for this well-produced bit of historical fiction (one of those “inspired by” fables) include a gag reel, a pair of featurettes, a music video and deleted scenes.
