It was a busy week for
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on the announcement front … a trio of golden
musicals heading to Blu-ray, a new Shaggy and Scooby-Doo! animated feature film
and more, so let’s get to it.
Arriving on Mar. 3 will
be newly-minted Blu-ray editions of director David Butler’s 1953 Oscar-winner
for Best Song (“Secret Love”), Calamity Jane, starring Doris Day
and Howard Keel; filmmaker Vincente Minnelli’s masterpiece of dance and music, The
Band Wagon, teaming Cyd Charisse with Fred Astaire; and — saving the
best for last — a 3D presentation of the musical adaptation of William
Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew,” Kiss Me Kate … directed by George
Sidney and starring Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson and Ann Miller.
These three musical
treasures will be available as individual Blu-ray SKUs or as elements in a
four-film set that includes the recently released Blu-ray edition of Singin’
in the Rain. It’s actually a
pretty good deal … the SRP for the individual Blu-ray editions of Calamity
Jane, The Band Wagon and Kiss
Me Kate are $19.98 each, while the boxed set is just $34.99 (and you
get Singin’
in the Rain as a bonus).
On Feb. 10 the latest
direct-to-video animated feature film starring Shaggy (voiced by Matthew
Lillard) and everyone’s favorite K9 sleuth, Scooby-Doo! (voiced by Frank
Welker), Scooby-Doo! Moon Monster Madness, will be heading to DVD.
Mindy Cohn returns as the
voice of Velma and Grey DeLisle-Griffin will reprise the voice of Daphne, while
former storyboard artist and storyboard director Paul McEvoy will be making his
directorial debut here in this outer space adventure.
Elsewhere, Jan. 13 marks
the DVD debut of the animated series Steven Universe: Gem Glow, while
Jan. 20 will see the next DVD edition of LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu -
Rebooted, Fall of the Golden Master available at retail.
