MVD Entertainment Group
announced this past week that its first “Rewind Collection” release for 2019
will take place on Jan. 22 with the Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack launch of director
James Yukich’s 1994 film adaptation of the popular Los Angeles-in-ruins video
game platform, Double Dragon.
The streets of “New
Angeles” are lawless after dark, with what remains of the police force unable
to make a dent in the gang-related terror.
It is in this environment that brothers Billy Lee (Scott Wolf — White
Squall, The Evening Star … as Bailey Salinger in the Party
of Five television series, etc.) and Jimmy Lee (Mark Dacascos — Drive,
The Island of Dr. Moreau, Maximum Impact) come into the possession of one
half of a magical medallion that gives the wearer — with both halves united —
super powers.
The other half is in the
possession of the ruthless villain Koga Shuko (Robert Patrick — Terminator
2: Judgment Day), who unleashes his cohorts of mutants and killers to
track down the brothers and retrieve the missing artifact. Simple plan … find them, kill them and take
it.
With the help of Marian
Delario (Alyssa Milano — as Phoebe Halliwell in the Charmed television series
and as Samantha Micelli in Who’s the Boss? series), the leader
of the Power Corps, an anti-gang group of self-styled vigilantes, the brothers
are able to fend off their attackers in a series of martial arts infused
encounters. The action builds, in the
rubble of the once great La La Land, to the inevitable showdown with Shuko!
Bonus features for this retro
gaming flick (bonus goodies announced thus far … more in the works) include a
vintage video session with filmmaker James Yukich, storyboards and a vintage
“Making Of” featurette.
