It takes a special kind
of mind-set to work in the home entertainment industry and treat a film that
has pulled in $175.4 million during its domestic box office run with complete
indifference.
But, sadly, that’s how it
is done over at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment these days. Every on-line retailer from the big box boys
to amazon.com started taking orders for a Mar. 19 delivery date for the CGI
animated smash, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, beginning on Monday, Feb. 4.
But not a peep; not a murmer out of SPHE …
not even a royal wave. Just crickets
and indifference for the launch of this Oscar-nominee as a three-SKU product
offering — DVD, Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack
selections — on Mar. 19.
That date, by the way,
yields an ARR of 95 days.
As to bonus goodies for
this Best Animated Feature Film favorite (already won the Golden Globe in the
same category), word is (nothing official of course) that the directing tandem
of Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman will provide commentary
(hey guys, be sure to give a shout-out to Sony Pictures Home Entertainment for
the promotional effort they’ve put behind your film).
Plus, there is the music
video from Nicki Minaj, Anuel AA and Bantu titled “Familia” and seven featurettes
— “Caught in A Ham Short,” “We Are Spider-man,” “Spider-Verse: A New Dimension,”
“The Ultimate Comics Cast,” “Designing Cinematic Comic Book Characters: Heroes
& Hams,” “Designing Cinematic Comic Book Characters: Scoundrels &
Scorpions,” “A Tribute To Stan Lee and Steve Ditko” and “The Spider-Verse Super
Fan Easter Egg Challenge.”
Update, Wednesday, Feb. 6
… crickets.
