Warner Bros. Home
Entertainment has March Madness of its own going for it with the news week. It is going to be a very big month, that’s a
certainty with Creed II already in place on Mar. 5, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of
Grindelwald following on Mar. 12 and the announcement this week that
director James Wan’s Aquaman will cap off the month with
a Mar. 26 street date!
The ARR is 95 and
Christmas-season ticket sales were a robust $323.6 million.
Planned for release are a
stand-alone DVD edition and Combo Packs for both Blu-ray (with DVD) and 4K
Ultra HD (with Blu-ray).
After being a secondary
character in filmmaker Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
and Justice
League (2017), Jason Momoa goes center stage with the story of Arthur
Curry and his ascent to power as Aquaman, the half-breed son of a lighthouse
keeper (played by Temuera Morrison) and Atlanna (Nicole Kidman), The Queen of
Atlantis.
With this storyline now
in place, the studio is free to launch a whole series of Aquaman movies — in
addition to any “Justice League” activity — and although a sequel is in the
works, no dates have been announced as of yet.
Stay tuned.
As to bonus goodies, there
is a “sneak peak” of Shazam! (which opens theatrically on
Apr. 4) and a dozen featurettes — “Going Deep Into the World of Aquaman,” “Becoming
Aquaman,” “James Wan: World Builder,” “Aqua Tech,” “Atlantis Warfare,” “The
Dark Depths of Black Manta,” “Heroines of Atlantis,” “Villaneous Training,” “Kingdoms
of the Seven Seas,” “Creating Undersea Creatures,” “A Match Made in Atlantis”
and “Scene Study Breakdowns.”
