Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will be
bringing to market on Sept. 24 a three-SKU helping of director Danny Boyle’s
Beatles-themed fantasy, Yesterday.
The ARR is a quick-to-market 88 days and box office
receipts in the domestic marketplace are at $70.5 million.
Planned for release are Combo Packs for both the 4K
Ultra HD (with Blu-ray) and Blu-ray (with DVD) formats, plus there will be a
stand-alone DVD edition.
It was a long-and-winding road to get Yesterday to
the screen and once it was finally into production there were certain forces
that just wouldn’t let it be (all puns intended). With that said, this is a fun fantasy film
that should be well received in all the after-markets, especially in the home
entertainment packaged media arena.
As to bonus goodies, there is commentary by director
Danny Boyle (Best Director Oscar-winner for Slumdog
Millionaire), who is joined by
writer/producer Richard Curtis (Oscar-nominated for his Four
Weddings and a Funeral script back in 1994 …
other screenplays include Notting Hill, War Horse, Love
Actually).
The film, according to trade reports, underwent a
number of test screenings and as a result it was tightened in its
narrative. So it comes as no surprise
that counted among the bonus features are both an alternate opening and an
alternate ending, plus there are an unspecified number of deleted scenes.
In addition to a gag reel, there are seven
production featurettes — “Live at Abbey Road Studios,” “A Talented Duo,”
“Playing for Real,” “Soul Mates,” “Ed Sheeran: From Stadium to Screen,” “Agent
of Comedy: Kate McKinnon” and “A Conversation with Richard and Ed.”
