MVD Entertainment Group announced this past week
that director Jamie Dixon’s 1998 film adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1881 short
story, Bram Stoker’s Shadowbuilder,
will be released on DVD on Oct. 13 under the company’s popular Rewind Collection
as a Special Edition.
Little Chris Hatcher (played by Kevin Zegers, who transitioned
from child actor in the Air Bud
films to adult roles in the likes of Fear the
Walking Dead, Sleepwalker, Aftermath, The Colony …
and more) is in grave danger, but he’s just a kid and he is blissfully unaware
that he is being stalked by a demon called “Shadowbuilder.”
This will, of course, all change in short order as a
sinister Catholic Archbishop summons the beast to do his bidding, but gets quite
the surprise when he and his followers are crispy fried and reduced to
shadows. Now free, Shadowbuilder (played
by voice actor Andrew Jackson) must track down Chris, take his soul and in
doing so, open the gates to Hell.
Only Father Jacob Vassey (Michael Rooker — as Yondo
in Guardians of the Galaxy
movies) and the local sheriff, Sam Logan (Shawn Thompson — Hairspray, Sleeping
with Strangers), who are both deeply flawed individuals, stand between Chris
and the ever-resourceful Shadowbuilder (who simply possesses whomever it
pleases to carry out its mission).
Bonus goodies include commentary by director Jamie
Dixon (he transitioned to an f/x career, working on such films as True
Lies, X-Men, Deep Blue Sea and more … many more),
there is a making of documentary titled Making of
Shadowbuilder, plus two featurettes — “Shadowbuilder:
Visual Effects” and “Shadowbuilder: Kevin Zegers.”
