Warner Bros. Home Entertainment came through with a quartet
of new 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack selections that past week, all of which will
be heading to the consumer marketplace on Sept. 1.
Buzz at some of the film aficionado sites sees a
number of “buy them all” comments, while others get deeper in the weeds arguing
for this title or that … the interest is definitely there.
We’re going to go out a limb here and pick director
Richard Donner’s 1985 classic, The Goonies, as
the one title in the mix that virtually everyone agrees on. The new 4K Ultra HD disc will be a movie-only
presentation, with the companion Blu-ray containing the most current selection
of bonus features.
For example, these would be cast and crew commentary,
deleted scenes, a making-of documentary and Cyndi Lauper’s music video for “The
Goonies ‘R Good Enough.”
The other three films in this Sept. 1 4K Ultra
HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack promotion from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment are
director Tim Burton’s 1988 smash comedy, Beetlejuice,
starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin; and both
of the newly-imagined Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson adventures directed by Guy
Richie — Sherlock Holmes
(2009) and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011)
— teaming Robert Downey, Jr. as Sherlock Holmes with Jude Law as Dr. John
Watson.
These are also configured the same as The
Goonies, with the 4K Ultra HD disc being
a movie-only presentation, with the companion Blu-ray disc housing the most current
array of bonus features.
