Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced this past week that director Stephen Norrington’s 1998 vampire-hunter thriller, Blade, starring Wesley Snipes as the title character, will be getting a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack push on Dec. 1.
Based on the early 1970s Marvel Comics, Kris Kristofferson co-stars as the “Day-Walker’s” mentor, Whistler, with Stephen Dorff as his chief rival, the vampire Deacon Frost. The film was a surprise success, which spawned two sequels and a television series.
Bonus features include commentary with Wesley Snipes and Stephen Dorff, who are joined by writer David S. Goyer, cinematographer Theo Van De Sande, production designer Kirk M. Petruccelli and producer Peter Frankfurt. There is also an isolated score with commentary by composer Mark Isham.
In other news this week, Nov. 10 marks the Blu-ray debut of director William Dieterle’s 1942 biopic, Tennessee Johnson, starring Van Heflin as the embattled president Andrew Johnson.
And, Nov. 3 will see the Blu-ray rollout of director Frank Borzage’s 1940 controversial pre-war drama, The Mortal Storm, featuring an all-star cast that includes James Stewart, Margaret Sullivan, Frank Morgan, Robert Young, Robert Stack and Bonita Granville. It is reported that when Hitler saw the movie, he banned all future MGM films from being released in Germany.
