Mill Creek Entertainment Preps The Blu-ray Debut Of Director Steve Pink's Accepted For Release On Jan. 19

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey

It only took 15 years, but at last ... at last director Steve Pink’s outrageous 2006 comedy, Accepted, starring a baby-faced Justin Long, along with Jonah Hill and Blake Lively (among others), will be making its Blu-ray debut in the New Year.

Mill Creek Entertainment has selected Jan. 19 as the street.   They been busy with New Year’s news … first it was news about the next release in the Ultraman series, the six-disc collection of Ultraman Taro on Jan. 12.   This was followed by four new additions to the company’s popular “Retro VHS Blu-ray” series — Blind Fury, Crossroads, The Freshman and Like Father Like Son, all of which also street on Jan. 12.

This week, the very good news was the long-awaited Blu-ray debut of Accepted.

Bartleby Gaines (Justin Long — Jeepers Creepers, Dodgeball, Live Free or Die Hard, etc.) is a whip-smart high school senior, who manages to goof his way out of being accepted to any college in the country.   His father (Mark Derwin) expects big things out of him and Bartleby has to solve this problem … and do it now!!

If you can’t get accepted to a university or college that dear old dad will approve of, just invent one.   After all, you just have to buy enough time to get him off of your back.   He recruits his friends to help with the ruse.   And, wouldn’t you know it, it backfires.

Bartleby’s buddy, Sherman (Jonah Hill … long before he clicked with Superbad, Moneyball and the two Jump Street movies), sets up a fake website for the South Harmon Institute of Technology (you can work out the acronym for yourself) to fool dad, which it sort of does, but there’s a problem.   Other students looking to get in some place, started applying and Sherman set it up so that anyone doing so, would be ACCEPTED!!

Filmmaker Steve Pink (his directing debutHot Tub Time Machine, About Last Night … writer for both High Fidelity and Grosse Pointe Blank) has a blast with this comedy that spins wildly out of control.   Once the deceit is started, Bartleby has to keep it going … there is a college to run, students to teach, his father’s approval and the heart of his sweetheart, Monica (Blake Lively … in her follow-up film to The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) to win.

Bonus goodies include deleted scenes, a gag reel, commentary with director Steve Pink and cast members Justin Long, Lewis Black, Jonah Hill and Adam Herschman, the featurette titled “Reject Rejection: The Making of Accepted” and a pair of music videos — “Hangin’ on the Half Pipe” and “Keepin’ Your Head Up.”
