Director Robert Lorenz's The Marksman Streets On May 11 From Universal Pictures Home Entertainment

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will be joining forces with Open Road Films on May 11 for the Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and DVD rollout of director Robert Lorenz’s The Marksman, starring Liam Neeson.

The ARR works out to 116 days and box office receipts were an impressive $13.6 million — when you consider the state of theatrical exhibition these days, anything over $5 million has to be something of a winner.   To put that number into perspective, seven of the eight Best Picture nominees have failed to crack the million-dollar mark.

Neeson stars as a former Marine who becomes the unlikely guardian of an 11-year old illegal alien by the name of Miguel (Jacob Perez in his film debut), who is being stalked by drug cartel assassins.

Included as a bonus feature is the featurette titled “The Making of the Marksman.”

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph TribbeyIn other release news from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 horror masterpiece, Psycho, will be available on May 25 as a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack edition (it was previously issued as part of a four-film Alfred Hitchcock movie collection on 4K Ultra HD last September).

Bonus features include two cuts of the film — the original Uncut theatrical presentation and the re-lease and broadcast version — plus commentary by author Stephen Rebello (“Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho”).

Additionally, there are three featurettes — “The Making of Psycho,” “Psycho Sound” and “In the Master’s Shadow: Hitchcock’s Legacy” — plus the famous shower scene is presented with and without music, the storyboards of the shower scene prepared by Saul Bass are also included as part of the bonus goodies, plus archives featuring posters, lobby cards, still and various press book ads, and newsreel footage of the film’s release.
