Jinga Films Tabs June 22 As The Debut Date For DVD And Blu-ray Editions Of Director Erik Bloomquist's Ten Minutes To Midnight

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey

Jinga Films, Ltd., with domestic sales and distribution expertise provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has selected June 22 for the DVD and Blu-ray debut of director Erik Bloomquist’s Ten Minutes to Midnight.

WOW, this was totally unexpected.   Bloomquist, who scored some film festival notice with his debut indie feature film Long Lost (2018), and prior to that for his short film titled, She Came from the Woods, has showed promise, but we expected a ho-hum horror effort using cult-favorite Caroline Williams as a bait-and-switch promotional hook.

We got a lot more than expected from both, and that’s a good thing!!   We apologize in advance for making assumptions.

Caroline Williams achieved instant genre-fan fame back in 1986 for her portrayal of radio disc jockey Vanita 'Stretch' Brock in Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.   “Stretch” wields a nasty chainsaw of her own … actually it was Grandma Sawyers, but hey, she took care of business.   And, of course, Rob Zombie paid homage to her and that take-down with a part in his 2009 film Halloween II … and there’s more.   Over the years, Williams has become part scream queen and part horror legend … and she still looks amazing.

Here she plays Amy Marlowe, “aging DJ,” who is being replaced by a younger, hotter chick.   It’s her last show and as bad luck would have it, she is bitten by a rabid bat on her way to work.   Amy’s a trooper, she’ll work thru it and do her last show.

Make no mistake, Ten Minutes to Midnight is her film.  She rocks (well, she is a DJ).  And she goes bat-shit crazy as the night wears on … all in a good way.   For genre fans this is heaven: cinematic nirvana … a to-the-wall performance from a legend, in an indie-horror film that exceeds expectations, what more can you ask for?

Bonus goodies include commentary from writer/director Erik Bloomquist, who is joined by co-writer Carson Bloomquist and the film’s star, Caroline Williams, plus there are four featurette, three of which feature Williams — “Immortality,” “Love Story” and “Memory Play”— plus the fourth featurette, which is titled “Behind the Scenes: Take One.”
