Icarus Films will be teaming up with France’s premiere film production and distribution company, Distrib Films, on Oct. 11 for the domestic DVD debut of director Emmanuel Poulain-Arnaud’s The Test.
The Castillon family has it all, a solid marriage between Annie (Alexandra Lamy — You Choose!, Vincent, Rolling to You) and her husband Laurent (Philippe Katerine — Sink or Swim, Petite Solange), who have two perfect older sons — Maximilian (Joaquim Fossi) and César (Matteo Perez) — a teenage daughter, Poupi (Chloé Gaillard), who never complains or whines about pitching in to help out with her younger brother Antoine. Perfect … harmonious.
But then Annie finds that thing in the bathroom! A mystery that might even put the great Sherlock Holmes to the test begins to unfold. Or maybe the more descriptive word would be “unravel” … instead of unfold.
Yes, that’s the word … the harmony of the Castillon household begins to unravel!!
What is the “thing” that sets Annie into mega-detective mode? A positive pregnancy test left behind in the bathroom!! Have the perfect sons been up to mischief with a girlfriend (or two … who, what, when and where, oh my)? The perfect daughter, has she been too perfect; too wonderful? And what of Laurent, has he gone off the reservation?
The Test, filmed in Marseille, Montpellier and other locations around France, is a delightful French comedy — something of a screwball throwback — that arrives in the domestic marketplace virtually unseen (thank you, DVD … that opportunity arrives on Oct. 11).
The “mystery” of the “thing” is presented in French with English subtitles.
