Arrow Video Tabs May 30 For The 4K Ultra HD Debut Of Director Nick Castle's 1984 Sci-Fi Hit The Last Starfighter

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey

Arrow Video, with domestic sales and distribution expertise provided by MVD Entertainment Group, looks to May 30 for the 4K Ultra HD debut of director Nick Castle’s 1984 sci-fi treasure, The Last Starfighter.

1984 was a landmark year for modest-budget sci-fi films that captured the imagination of genre fans.   Sure, you had the big-budget franchise entry in June, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and both Dune and 2010: The Year We Make Contact in December, but there were four lesser-budget entries that all proved to be keepers … The Last Starfighter in mid-July, followed by The Philadelphia Experiment in August, The Terminator arrived at the end of October and in mid-November we saw the theatrical debut of Night of the Comet.

The Last Starfighter, The Philadelphia Experiment, Night of the Comet and The Terminator all in the same year!

This new 4K Ultra HD edition of The Last Starfighter is a 4K restoration from the original camera negative and Arrow Video has loaded it with extras galore.

Other delights include the four-part documentary titled Crossing the Frontier: The Making of The Last Starfighter and seven featurettes — “Maggie’s Memories: Revisiting The Last Starfighter,” “Into the Starscape: Composing The Last Starfighter,” “Incredible Odds: Writing The Last Starfighter,” “Interstellar Hit-Beast: Creating the Special Effects,” “Excalibur Test: Inside Digital Productions” “Greetings Starfighter! Inside the Arcade Game” and “Heroes of the Screen.”
