The celebration is on with news this past week from Paramount Home Entertainment that all four of the “Next Generation” Star Trek theatrical adventures will be released on Apr. 4 as 4K Ultra HD editions in the Star Trek: The Next Generation 4-Movie Collection.
That’s right, all four films in the series — director David Carson’s 1994 cross-over film, Star Trek: Generations; director Jonathan Frakes’ 1996 entry, Star Trek: First Contact; his 1998 follow-up, Star Trek: Insurrection and director Stuart Baird’s 2002 release of Star Trek: Nemesis — are being released for the first time as 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack product offerings.
Each film has the 4K Ultra HD viewing option, with the accompanying Blu-ray — also remastered — containing the legacy/vintage bonuses (commentaries, deleted scenes and featurettes).
Also, all four films in the series will be re-issued as 4K remastered Blu-ray editions on Apr. 4 as well.
One other note, it appears — and this flew in under the radar — that Paramount Home Entertainment will be re-issuing director John Ford’s The Quiet Man on Blu-ray on Feb. 28. This was put out back in 2016 by the now defunct Olive Films.
