Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has circled Mar. 7 on the calendar as the street date for director Sarah Polley’s Best Picture-nominated film adaptation of Miriam Toews’ 2018 based-on-actual-events novel, Women Talking.
Planned for release are a Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack as well as a stand-alone DVD edition.
The ARR comes in at 74 days and box office receipts, despite the Best Picture nomination, currently stand at just $4.5 million. But, there is a reason for that.
Women Talking opened at the Telluride Film Festival in September of last year and then proceeded to work the international festival circuit throughout the balance of 2022. A limited— Oscar qualifying — domestic theatrical launch ttok place over the Christmas/New Years holiday season.
Its widest theatrical exposure has been in just over 700 screens … for many, home entertainment package media and/or streaming will be the most likely viewing option.
Of note, Sarah Polley is nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. This is her second Oscar nomination in that category — Away with Her in 2008 was the other (which she also directed).
There are no bonus features associated with the home entertainment packaged media launch of Women Talking.
