Paramount Home Entertainment has selected Apr. 15 as the street date for a full spread of physical media consumer purchasing options for director Jeff Fowler’s latest installment in the hedgehog named Sonic film franchise series, Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
The ARR works out to 116 days and the domestic box office haul currently stands at an impressive $219.8 million.
Planned for distribution are stand-alone DVD and Blu-ray editions, however major retail sources are not listing Blu-ray purchasing options, which is in keeping with recent distribution patterns for Smile 2 and Gladiator II.
There will also be two 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack editions, included in this mix is a SteelBook selection (limited edition).
Also included in the announcement is the opening of a premium VOD window on Jan. 21, which gives the “Helper” community an 84-day window to move their own Blu-ray editions (the favorite distribution format for capacity) to unsuspecting consumers.
As for bonus features, these are limited to the 4K Ultra HD SKUs and include commentary from Fowler, who is joined by Sonic voice talent Ben Schwartz.
There are also deleted scenes, a gag reel and a whopping nine featurettes — “Sonic Family Fun,” “Enter Shadow,” “Robotnik Family Reunion: Ivo and Gerald,” “For the Love of Sonic: Directing a Trilogy,” “The Fox, the Echidna and the Hedgehog,” “Live-Action Lunacy: Acting Opposite Puppets,” “From the Cryo-Tank to London: The World of Sonic,” “Team Sonic vs. Shadow” and “A Very Sonic Christmas.”
