Writer/director Guillermo
del Toro’s monsters from another dimension, Pacific Rim, will get a
three-SKU home entertainment launch from Warner Home Video on Oct. 15.
The ARR is
swift-to-market 95 days and summer ticket sales currently stand at $100.4
million.
Planned are double-disc
DVD edition, a Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and a 3D/2D Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack, all
featuring UltraViolet.
You have to give del Toro
credit for coming up with a mix-genre sci-fi thriller. Pacific Rim is a little bit Transformers,
a little bit Godzilla and all nicely packaged in del Toro’s unique visual
style (think: Pan's Labyrinth) … and he pulls it off without a marquee name —
Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba and Rinko Kikuchi are not exactly household names.
Bonus features include
commentary from filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, deleted scenes, a blooper reel
and four featurettes — “Drift Space,” “The Digital Artistry of Pacific Rim,”
“The Shatterdome” and “Focus Points.”
Exclusive to the Blu-ray
SKUs is a bonus feature described as “The Directors Notebook.”
