Arrow Video, with domestic sales and distribution
expertise provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has completed a new 4K film
restoration of director Giuseppe Tornatore’s 1988 Best Foreign Language
Oscar-winner, Cinema Paradiso.
Not only can fans look for a new 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray
Combo Pack edition on Sept. 28, but Arrow will also be releasing a single-disc
DVD edition — featuring the theatrical cut of the film — and a double-disc
Blu-ray presentation featuring both the theatrical cut and the extended “director’s
cut” of the film (an additional 50 minutes).
This is the third 4K Ultra HD title from Arrow Video
in as many weeks, with director Mike Hodges’ 1980 film release of Flash
Gordon and filmmaker David Twohy’s 2000 sci-fi thriller,
Pitch Black,
both slated for 4K Ultra HD action on Aug. 18.
Consumers selecting either the 4K Ultra HD or
Blu-ray SKUs get both the original Italian-language theatrical cut and the
director’s extended cut of the film as viewing options.
Another bonus nugget is commentary from director Giuseppe
Tornatore, who is joined by Yale University’s Dr. Millicent Marcus, who
specializes in Italian culture, literature, history and film … author of “An
Allegory of Form: Literary Self-Consciousness in the Decameron,” “Italian Film
in the Light of Neorealism,” “After Fellini: National Cinema in the Postmodern
Age” and more.
Other bonus goodies include two documentaries, A Dream
of Sicily and A Bear
and a Mouse in Paradise, and the featurette
titled “The Kissing Sequence.”
