A Double-Dose Of I Spit On Your Grave On Blu-ray From Ronin Flix On Oct. 05

Ronin Flix, with sales and distribution support provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has a Blu-ray double-dose of horror lined up for genre fans to enjoy on Oct. 05.

We begin with writer/director Meir Zarchi’s 1978 revenge tale, I Spit on Your Grave, starring the iconic Camille Keaton (The Concrete Jungle, Savage Revenge, The Lords of Salem, etc.) as Jennifer Hills, a young woman on a working vacation in Connecticut (she is out to write her first novel), who develops a taste for murder after she is abducted and then beaten and raped repeatedly.

This is a new 4K HD scan and restoration from the original 35mm camera negative.

The film, independently produced, directed and written by Meir Zarchi, was a “bicycle-print” self-distributed effort by Zarchi, meaning that he had only enough money to strike a limited number of 35mm prints … he then “bicycled” them around from one small venue to the next under the title Day of the Woman.   It was, at best, a break-even effort.

At some point Jerry Gross, an exploitation distributor — I Drink Your Blood, Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, I Eat Your Skin, and more — got wind of the film and offered to re-release it.   Only the title just needed a bit of tweeting for the audience that Gross was looking for … and he found it with I Spit on Your Grave.

Audiences love it.   Mainstream film critics hated it … go back and read Roger Ebert’s review, boy did he have a few things to say about the film!!

Bonus goodies include two vintage commentary options, one with writer/director Meir Zarchi and the other featuring Joe Bob Briggs.  There’s a new featurette titled “Jennifer’s Journey” and the vintage featurette titled “The Value of Vengeance.”   Lastly, Ronin Flix is including the original Day of the Woman opening credits.

The other Blu-ray heading home from Ronix Flix on Oct. 5 is the “only direct sequel” to the original film, I Spit on Your Grave: Déjà vu.   This is the 2019 follow-up from writer/director Meir Zarchi.

The relatives of the rapists that Jennifer Hills dealt with in the original film have banned together to get their revenge.   In the years that have passed Jennifer (played again by Camille Keaton) has become a well-known writer and has a daughter, Christy (Jamie Bernadette — Dead by Dawn, Face of Evil), who just happens to be a model.

A word to the wise, let the past be buried and forgotten.  But no, they make the same mistake as their dead relatives did 40 years earlier and despite a good, coordinated effort, Jennifer and Christy are a formidable pair!!

Bonus goodies include commentary from Joe Bob Briggs, video sessions with the cast and crew, the featurette titled “The Making of I Spit on Your Grave: Déjà vu” and behind-the-scenes footage with filmmaker Meir Zarchi.
