Mill Creek Entertainment, in association with Mutiny Pictures, has tabbed May 31 as the street date for writer/director Peter Hsish’s surreal thriller, Drive All Night.
This Bay-area all-night puzzle is a neo-noir blend of elements of Scorsese’s Taxi Driver with Michael Mann’s Collateral and generously laced with the sensibility of a David Lynch. If that hits the sweet-spot for your must-see type of film, then Mill Creek’s pick-up of this Cinequest Film Festival surprise should be right up your viewing alley.
Dave (played by Yutaka Takeuchi — Battleship, Tales from the Dead) is a late-night taxi driver. He likes the hours, he likes the pace, it is almost a Zen experience for him. But on this night, the driving “bliss” is stressed with an unusual fare, a young woman — that we come to know as Cara (Lexy Hammonds — Escape Room, Girl Games) — hires Dave’s cab to drive her here and there in the south bay city of San Jose.
On one of her “random” stops she collects a mysterious duffel bag … what is this all about? And what role does professional hitman Lenny (Johnny Gilligan — Through the Ashes, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, Corruptissima) play in all of this? It is going to be a long night of mysterious twists and turns … Dave might be behind the wheel of the cab, but he is really just along for the ride.
For an indie production, all of the technical elements are top notch, especially the cinematography of William Hellmuth, and the story is a dream. Action, mystery and a night you might not soon forget. Drive All Night from Mill Creek Entertainment on May 31 … mark it down!!
