So imagine yourself as a typical consumer and not an industry-related (somehow) reader of this report. You’ve seen director Sian Heder’s CODA when it was out theatrically. You even watch the Oscars and rooted for it to win Best Picture … and it did.
Or, maybe you heard about it and caught it on Apple TV.
Regardless of how the film came onto your personal radar, you may have been wondering when can I purchase a copy for my personal library? You know, a DVD, perhaps a Blu-ray or maybe even go all in with a 4K Ultra HD edition.
Apple TV hasn’t released CODA, there are too busy selling the latest iPhones for an arm and leg. Maybe you’ve even steered clear of the local Apple Store because of the child labor controversies associated with its production, but you would sure like to have a copy of the film (probably no child labor involved with it).
So you “google” it and you see copies being offered for sale on Etsy and eBay, but you having nothing to do with that “China” stuff. But wait, what’s this? A brand new DVD copy of CODA being offered for sale from Lionsgate!
Lionsgate? Lionsgate! Yes, you are a consumer and you’ve heard of Lionsgate, you know that copy that puts out the Saw and John Wick movies.
It must be legit. It looks legit. By gosh, it even has a barcode. This has to be the real deal at last.
For the average consumer, they would take no notice that the barcode on the professional-looking package is for an entirely different Lionsgate release — a Blu-ray edition of Mid-Summer.
It’s just another false alarm. So when will CODA be released on DVD? On Blu-ray? Or perhaps even 4K Ultra HD? You guess is as good as mine.
