MVD Entertainment Group Announces Marquee Collection Status For The Blu-ray Release Of Director Brian Gilbert’s Not Without My Daughter On Dec. 11

MVD Entertainment Group announced its latest addition to its premiere Marquee Collection series of releases this past week.  On Dec. 11 look for director Brian Gilbert’s 1991 film adaptation of Betty Mahmoody’s harrowing 1987 true-life book, Not Without My Daughter, to make its debut on Blu-ray.

Of note, Not Without My Daughter was originally released on DVD in October of 2001 by MGM Home Entertainment and is currently out of print!  Used DVD copies are currently fetching a cool one hundred bill, so be sure to take advantage of this Blu-ray arrival from MVD as they’ve set the SRP at just $24.95!!

Sally Field stars as Betty Mahmoody, who married an Iranian-born doctor by the name of Dr. Sayyed Bozorg Mahmoody (Alfred Molina) in 1977 and in time they had a daughter by the name of Mahtob (Sheila Rosenthal).   Despite Betty’s misgivings (related to the taking of the American Embassy in Nov. of 1979 and the hostage crisis that followed), she agreed to a “family vacation” in Tehran during the summer of 1984 in order to meet and spend time with her husband’s family.

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph TribbeyIt was a mistake that she would soon regret.   When the two-week stay was up, the good doctor told her that all three of them would be living in Tehran, period!

The rules of Iranian marriage law dictated that she was now an Iranian citizen, her daughter Mahtob was also Iranian and for either of them to travel abroad they must have his permission … which was never going to happen!!

Not Without My Daughter chronicles Betty Mahmoody’s 18-month stay in Iran as the prisoner of her estranged husband and the life-or-death escape plan that she set in motion.   No matter what, she was not leaving her daughter behind!

Bonus features include a “Making Of” production featurette.
