Universal Pictures Home
Entertainment will be guiding the STX Entertainment film production of director
Brian Henson’s The Happytime Murders to its home entertainment launch on Dec.
4.
OK, Melissa McCarthy is
not bulletproof. After a string of hits
that included Life of the Party, The Boss, Tammy, The Heat, etc., she
bombed. It wasn’t in the category of,
oh, let’s say, Ishtar, but The Happytime Murders with just
$20.7 million in summertime box office receipts didn’t exactly set the world on
fire.
The film will do just
fine on DVD and Blu-ray … and who knows, in time Henson’s off-the-wall comedy
could achieve cult status.
For the record, that Dec.
4 street date for DVD and Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack editions of The Happytime
Murders yields an ARR of 102 days.
Bonus features include
commentary from Brian Henson (Muppet Treasure Island, The Muppet Christmas
Carol) and voice actor Bill Barretta (voices for Detective Phil
Philips, Junkyard and Boar), deleted scenes, a gag reel and a trio of featurettes
— “Virtual Environments,” “Avatars Demo” and “VFX Breakdown.”
Also heading home on Dec.
4 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is director Chris Weitz’s Operation
Finale.
The story of the capture
of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann (played by Ben Kingsley) by Israeli agents
pulled in $17.5 million during its domestic theatrical run. The ARR is 95 days.
Planned for release are
DVD and Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack editions.
Bonus goodies include
commentary from director Chris Weitz (The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Golden
Compass, About a Boy) and featurette titled “Inside the Operation.”
