Warner Bros. Home
Entertainment took a look at the November/December home entertainment release
calendar and took notice of a hole on Nov. 20. Nothing in the way of major new theatrical summer hit was locked into that
date … a key spot on the lead in to the Christmas-selling season. So they grabbed it!
On that pre-Thanksgiving
street-date Tuesday there will be the mid-August comedy smash, director Jon M.
Chu’s film adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s 2013 international best-selling novel, Crazy
Rich Asians.
The ARR is 95 days and
late summer multiplex venues hummed to the tune of $169.2 million in box office
receipts.
Planned for release are DVD
and Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack editions.
Kwan’s 2015 follow-up
book, “China Rich Girlfriend,” has already been picked up for development … so
expect a sequel will be in the works soon.
As to bonus goodies for Crazy
Rich Asians, common to both release SKUs is the featurette titled
“Crazy Rich Fun.” Exclusive to the
Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack product offering are a gag reel, deleted scenes and a
commentary option teaming filmmaker Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Now You
See Me 2) and novelist Kevin Kwan.
