Silent film archivist and
historian Ben Model and his Undercrank Productions home entertainment label will
be releasing the DVD collection of Found at “Mostly Lost”: Volume 2 on
Oct. 30.
Working with the Library
of Congress and its annual “Film Identification Workshops” — where fans and
historians gather to view films that no longer contain proper identification —
Undercrank Productions has gathered together ten such “mysteries” for this
unique collection.
According to Model, “These
films have not been restored and appear in the same “preserved-as-found” state
as they were in when screened at “Mostly Lost.”
He continued by saying, “I have created a pair of title cards for each
film that precedes the actual film, one that shows the “unidentified as” name
of the film and one for the correct name and credits and release information.”
Included in the Found
at “Mostly Lost”: Volume 2 collection are Snub Pollard’s 1922 comedy
short (directed by none other than Charley Chase), Do Me a Favor, and the 1922
comedy short, Derby Day, starring Monty Banks and Lucille Hutton (this is not
to be confused with the Hal Roach/Rascals silent short of the same name, which
was released theatrically during this same period).
