This comes as a total
surprise. With Walt Disney Home
Entertainment’s mega hit, The Incredibles 2, already in place
on Nov. 6, we fully anticipated that director Marc Forster delightful Christopher
Robin would be targeted for release during early December.
Instead, this
live-action/CGI story of the grown man, Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) from the
“Hundred Acre Wood” and his childhood friends — Winnie the Pooh (voiced by Jim
Cummings), et al — will also be heading home on Nov. 6 as DVD and Blu-ray/DVD
Combo Pack product offerings.
The ARR works out to 95
days and box office receipts were an impressive $98.1 million.
Disney did a very rare
thing with the home entertainment announcement of Christopher Robin and
turned to an outside PR agency to get the word out (Think Jam), which leads us
to suspect that sign-offs (or other internal issues) came very late (we are
likely inside the pre-book date) and an extra push was felt necessary for this
very special film.
There’s nothing else in
the theatrical pipeline for this year, so any December promotions will likely
be from the studio’s film library.
Just can’t imagine Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment not having a
Christmas-season promotion of some sort … perhaps additional 4K Ultra HD
product offerings.
As to bonus features,
which are limited to the Blu-ray SKU, include a quartet of featurettes — “A
Movie Is Made for Pooh,” “Pooh Finds His Voice,” “Pooh and Walt Become Friends”
and “Pooh and Friends Come to Life.”
