Shout! Studios announced this past week that director Joe Dante’s winter of 1993 film release of Matinee, starring John Goodman, will be getting a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack release on June 25.

This is a new 4K film restoration (supervised by Dante) from the film’s original camera negative.

Set against the backdrop of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, this comedy plays out at an afternoon screening of film producer Lawrence Woolsey’s (John Goodman) latest creature feature, Mant (a forerunner to Ant-Man).

The theatre (the interior was actually built on a sound stage), in Key West, Florida, is falling apart and the audience, while screaming at the jolts and chills of the mutant ant/man movie, begin to suspect that World War III has broken out!!

Shout! Studios has loaded this 4K launch of Matinee with a ton of bonus goodies, including a newly prepared commentary with film critics Drew McWeeny and Eric Vepe.

The companion Blu-ray disc (which also includes the movie) has new video session with actors Kellie Martin (as Sherry) and David Clennon (Jack).

There are also deleted scenes, extended scenes, behind-the-scenes footage and nine vintage featurettes — “Master of the Matinee,” “The Leading Lady,” “MANTastic: The Making of a Mant,” “Out of the Bunker,” “Making a Monster Theatre,” “The Monster Mix,” “Lights! Camera! Reunion!,” “Paranoia in Ant Vision” and “The Making of Matinee.”
