Mill Creek Entertainment has tabbed May 21 as the Blu-ray debut date for director Rick Bieber’s film adaptation of K.E Clark's novel “Deadly Instinct,” which has been retitled for the screen as Dead Wrong.
What could possibly go wrong with a plan concocted by a less-than-faithful husband by the name of Billy Evans (Derek Smith — as Kevin in the What/If mini-series) to have his newborn son kidnapped from the local hospital?
His wife, Barbara (Katrina Bowden — Great White, Scary Movie V, Love on the Slopes) is about ready to pop, which should be a happy time, but Billy sees it as nothing more than the perfect opportunity to cash in. Besides, he sleeping with Barbara’s sister Wendy (Chelsea Debo) and a kid would just mess that arrangement up.
The elements of the crime involve a seedy attorney, Ethan Boggs (a nice turn by Rob Schneider) — who is deep in debt to bookmaker Rollie Barnes (Joshua Bitton) — Jacob (Blake Shields) and Sarah Glass (Rosalie Ward) (whose role in the scheme we will deliberately leave out of the discussion) and Billy’s lifelong friend, Jacko (Chet Hanks).
Billy in envious of Jacko’s luxury lifestyle, which just happens to be financed by his criminal enterprises (hello, mobster, with violent associates), so he’s going to play catch-up by setting up a kidnapping, which is followed by a shakedown.
Let’s see, criminal enterprises, bookmaking, sexual intrigue, seedy attorney … oh yes, one more Drake (Cress Williams), the insurance investigator assigned to the case, who may or may not have “plans” of his own. So many involved, with so many motives of their own … indeed, what could possibly go wrong?
Any guesses on the body count? Find out if you picked the correct number on May 21 when Mill Creek Entertainment delivers the Blu-ray edition of K.E. Clark’s popular crime thriller, Dead Wrong.
